Traveling to Grenada

How to get there and Where to stay

To get to Grenada, you will first need to acquire a passport if you do not already have one.
Be prepared for a bit of a long plane ride. Flights can be upwards of 6 hours assuming it is a direct flight that has no stops. Booking as far ahead of time as possible will get you cheaper flights, but you may encounter longer flight times, especially during the holidays.

As far as hotels and lodging go, there are plenty of locations available that range from Airbnb style suites to resorts. There is lodging available almost anywhere you may want to stay whether that is beachfront or further inside the island. Again, booking as far ahead of time as possible will make your trip a little cheaper.

Grenada has many beautiful beaches that you can enjoy but there are also gardens, lakes, and even waterfalls! If you are traveling with kids or are looking for a more adventurous outing then the Seven Sisters Falls may be more suited to your liking. But those looking for a more relaxing, wind down vacation may favor the resorts and various estates located on the island where you can enjoy the more educational attractions the island has to offer. The Belmont Estate offers tours and lets you experience a traditional cocoa production on the plantation that even lets you sample the chocolate produced!
Budget Restrictions

Flights will be anywhere from $700-$3000 roundtrip depending on how many people you are booking.
You'll be able to exchange U.S. dollars for East Caribbean dollars within the terminal at the Maurice Bishop International Airport when you reach St. George's.
You'll be able to find any kind of hotel, lodging, or apartment to suit your needs anywhere starting from $45 a night
Touring the island using the bus system will be cheaper but not very efficient if you are exploring sites around the whole island so a car rental may be your best bet. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny though, as car rentals average $1809 per day.
The various tours offered on the islands vary from $40 per adult to almost $100 per adult.

  1. Hey Daniela! Wonderful post! Next time however, you have to remember to include all the elements required of the post! Your itinerary is missing, unfortunately. I do like how you've included various hyperlinks throughout the article directly to the places you're talking about and I definitely should've done the same in my post. I recommend more pictures in your next posts.

El Caribe Gris

What were the difficulties you encountered when reading Caribe Gris ? When reading Caribe Gris  it was difficult to coherently understand what the text was about. When reading the excerpt from the doc I wasn't able to easily differentiate between what were the author's words and what wasn't. I wasn't able to decipher what was what based on word choice because the english translation made everything weird for lack of a better term. Real photo of me very confused reading

The French and British Rule of Grenada

Pre-European Settlement The islands of Grenada were originally occupied by the peaceful Arawak people. They were wiped out by the Carib people who were much more violent. The Caribs claimed settlement over the land for 150 years or so following their take-over. Any attempts made by British merchants to also form settlement were met with resistance, and they were forced to leave.  French and British From 1650-1763 Grenada was French territory after Jacques-Dyel du Parquet of Martinique purchased it. Following the Treaty of Paris, Grenada was surrendered to Britain. There was some give and take as France repossessed Grenada in 1779 only to be restored to Britain again in 1783.
